A Night Out in Charleston, South Carolina

There are few places with the magic of Charleston, South Carolina. This beautiful city is filled with ole fashioned Southern charm, sweet smells of honeysuckle and salty air, and timeless beauty. I love the atmosphere of spending a night out in Charleston. Perfect for a romantic date night, meeting a friend to catch up, or a fun family evening, I've put together a quick guide for anyone looking to enjoy an evening downtown in the Holy City.

Before Dinner

The Battery is a beautiful spot overlooking the Charleston Harbor. Filled with history, live oaks, and dogs running around, this is a great spot to start your evening off on the right foot. Take a stroll down the center of the park in the shade of the trees or walk along the water's edge and look out over the harbor. It's the perfect location to snap a few photos or to sit on a bench and watch the boats drift by.

Dinner

For dinner, head down King Street and you'll find The Darling Oyster Bar. This beautiful restaurant has a vintage charm and amazing seafood and raw bar. All of the pairings are delightfully fresh but if you're not a seafood lover, there are several items on the menu that will appeal to you as well. The drinks from the bar are specially crafted and you can't go wrong with anything on the cocktail menu but if you're feeling adventurous, the oyster shooter (Pepper-Infused Vodka, House made Mix, Raw Oyster) is a great way to start your meal. Order a bottle of wine for the table and a dozen or so oysters and you can easily spend a few hours at the Darling enjoying the evening. Because this restaurant is a local and tourist favorite, it's usually pretty busy so I would suggest making reservations.

After Dinner

After dinner, head right down the street to Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. Hopefully, you've saved room for dessert because this adorable ice cream parlor has an amazing array of flavors ranging from your traditional treats like chocolate and sweet cream but they also have seasonal flavors that are to die for. Their pairings are unique and the ice cream is creamy and the perfect sweet treat any time of the year.  (My recommendation—the Charleston inspired flavor, sweet cream with peanuts and molasses in a waffle cone, is amazing!!)

Over the years, I've spent many weekends and summers down in the Holy City and it will always hold a very special place in my heart. I love getting to walk down the battery, looking out over the Charleston Harbor and watching the sailboats drift by. I love the live oaks and their streams of Spanish moss dangling down. I love the delicious seafood that is brought in off the docks paired with the fresh flavors of the season. I like the laid back atmosphere you have when you're sitting down to eat an ice cream cone and licking the sticky sweetness off of your fingers. The whole city feels magical and I hope that you get to experience that magic for yourself when you spend a night out in the beautiful city of Charelston.
